Uni-Gloss 60A

The Konica Minolta Uni-Gloss 60A is a single-angle (60°) portable gloss meter designed for fast, reliable gloss measurement across all surface types. The Uni-Gloss 60A gloss meter uses the universal 60° measurement angle, which is suitable for evaluating gloss levels from matte to high-gloss surfaces. The 60° angle is the most commonly specified gloss measurement angle in international standards (ASTM D523, ISO 2813), making the Uni-Gloss 60A the ideal choice for routine gloss QC in paints, coatings, plastics, automotive, and paper industries. The compact, lightweight design and simple one-button operation make it easy to use on the production floor.

Measurement Principle of the Uni-Gloss 60A

The Uni-Gloss 60A projects light at 60° to the sample surface and measures the intensity of specularly reflected light at the equal-but-opposite 60° angle. The ratio of reflected to incident light is expressed in gloss units (GU) relative to a polished black glass reference standard (defined as 100 GU at 60°).

Applications of the Uni-Gloss 60A

Routine gloss QC for paints, coatings, plastics, automotive finishes, paper, printing, and building materials.

Q: Why use 60° instead of 20° or 85°?

A: The 60° angle is the universal standard for gloss measurement and works across the full gloss range. Use 20° only for very high gloss, and 85° only for very matte surfaces.
